Night of the Senses
Earlier this
year we helped out at the annual charity fundraiser, The Night of
the Senses. We had such a brilliant time running their sensuality
chamber and also enjoyed the rest of the night so much so that we
decided that we wanted to make sure the event continues well into
the future. With that in mind, we agreed to be the balls primary
sponsors, and hope that our donation helps this wicked night continue
long into the future.
The Night of the Senses is an all-night pansexual extravaganza
charity ball, commencing with the prestigious Erotic Awards and
offering all kinds of explicit, artistic sex shows, treats and opportunities.
Many of the props you see at swing clubs around the UK were pioneered
at our Ball, some collected by Tuppy Owens on her foreign research
trips for her annual publication, The Sex Maniac's Diary.
Now in our 21st year, the Night of the Senses is still regarded
as revolutionary, cutting edge and totally unique. Turner prize
winner Grayson Perry nick-named us the Glastonbury of Sex and Eros
Zine says our ball is the sexiest event in the world.
Originally inspired by Fellini, the Night of the Senses welcomes
clientele from all over the world, often couples but also groups
arriving in odd numbers, encouraging suave seductions and outrageous
rituals. It is a night of serenaded sensuality, opening doors to
erotic intrigue, the thinking person's sensual playground. Guests
don't need to be young and gorgeous, in fact we would find it boring
if everyone were. Here, personal adventures are possible for everyone.
Guests explore pleasure through their mind, body, vision, sound,
smell, touch, feelings, laughter and passion. Sexual diversity and
erotic ambitions are celebrated in a joyful, safe, respectful, unhurried,
no-pressure, tolerant environment.
The Night of the Senses raises money for, and awareness of, the
sexual happiness of disabled people. Our very name connects with
people with sensory impairments who, like other disabled folk, often
struggle to find sexual fulfillment.
Funds raised go directly to the Outsiders Trust, registered charity
No 283350. Outsiders is a self-help group of people who have been
isolated because of social or physical disability. Members join
from all over Britain (and some abroad). They are encouraged to
gain confidence, make new friends and find partners. The first steps
may be to acknowledge the disabled person’s sexuality, emphasizing
their right to a private life to enjoy love in a society where status
normally stems from good looks and money.
Outsiders also runs the Sex and Disability Helpline, the V-Group
for disabled women with sexual problems, and the Sex and Disability
Alliance. We are seen as the world authority on sex and disability
but despite this, we rarely receive funding from the grant giving
trusts and never from the state or Dept of Health. Hence the need
for the Night of the Senses to support us. The Outsiders, the Ball
and the Erotic Awards depend almost entirely on volunteers, headed
by their founder, Dr Tuppy Owens.
Disabled people are welcome at the Night of the Senses and are
included in all our work. We pride ourselves in being as accessible
as possible and disability friendly. We also have a strict dress
code and no-press and no-cameras policy.
The next Night of the Senses is planned for Saturday 1st September
2007 in London.
